When I lived in California I had a 401k. I moved out of state and assumed that 401k account was mine and I could let it sit and get it when I was of age. I was contacted years after I left the state, from the 401k provider that I had days to respond or California would confiscate my 401k. They explained California recently passed a law that if they contact you about your account, and you do not respond in time they will claim it as abandoned property, and basically steal it from me. I would assume they are doing this will all accounts. They send to dead person, dead person can not respond, so state takes it.
