@mattvanswol Matt, we live in Kingstree, SC. In my duplex, we all have central heat obviously. If that goes out, there is not a kerosene or gas heater available here. I’m finishing preparations today. I agree, people are not taking this serious enough with the outages.

I'm extremely concerned that not enough people are taking the risk of power outages seriously enough. That pink band there is ice and the likelihood that brings down power lines is high. You need to know exactly how you are going to stay warm if the power is out for days. Do you have a generator? Do you have blankets? Do you have a gas fireplace or gas stove? Do you have propane and a propane heater? Do you have food, water, a source of light? The time to prepare for this is right now, you have time. Don't panic, but please don't be caught be surprise either. When Hurricane Helene hit, a lot of people, myself included, were totally unprepared. Don't be unprepared. Here's's 15 items under $100 you can get today: A) Warmth you wear: 1. Thermal base layer set (top + bottom) 2. Wool socks (2–4 pack) 3. Beanie + neck gaiter 4. Insulated gloves or mittens 5. Insulated slippers/house boots B) Warmth you sleep with: 6. Sleeping bag liner 7. Fleece blanket or heavy throw 8. Mylar emergency blanket multi-pack 9. Hot water bottle (rubber) or a leakproof bottle C) Warmth to make one room livable: 10. Draft stoppers / door sweeps 11. Weatherstripping tape + plastic sheeting 12. Window insulation film kit 13.
