Thank you to John Carlson and Nic Dowd for their extraordinary impact on the Washington @Capitals organization. John’s leadership on and off the ice helped define nearly two decades of Capitals hockey - including our 2018 Stanley Cup championship run - and he leaves a lasting mark as one of the greatest defensemen in franchise history. Nic embodies the qualities that set a standard both in the locker room and beyond, making a lasting impact across the organization and the community. We are deeply grateful to John and Nic for everything they’ve given to the Capitals and our fans, and we wish them the very best in the next chapter of their careers. While neither trade was an easy decision, these roster changes align with our long-term strategy to build a team that consistently competes for the Stanley Cup. We remain confident in our foundation and future as we enter the next phase of growth, continuing to build a team capable of contending at the highest level.
