Ward 2 CERT Training is in full swing, as 20 residents joined at Anthony Bowen YMCA to build skills, strengthen connections, and prepare to support their communities in case of an emergency. Participants started with team building activity by building towers from scratch.

During and after the storm, DDOT will coordinate with navigation and wayfinding apps to communicate road closures and hazards. If you encounter flooded roads or unsafe conditions, avoid the area and follow posted detours or alternate routes.

DC Homeland Security & Emergency Management
🚨 The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch in the District of Columbia until 7PM today, 3/16. A Tornado Watch means that tornadoes are possible in the area. Very strong and dangerous winds may cause downed trees/branches, localized power outages, and damage to homes and buildings. BEFORE A TORNADO: - Secure loose outdoor objects like trash cans, outdoor furniture, and other items that could become dangerous flying debris during a tornado. - Charge your phone and other communication, medical, or assistive devices in case of a power outage. - Identify a safe space to shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued. Visit ready.dc.gov/pages/hazard-t… for more safety tips. DURING A TORNADO: - Go to the nearest sturdy building if you are outside or in a vehicle. - Move to an interior room on the lowest floor if possible. STAY AWAY from windows.

The storm affects everyone and the response requires everyone. Our teams continue to clear roadways and DC Gov facilities throughout the city. Reminder: property owners must clear their own walkways. Snow Team Heroes are out, too—a big thank you to all the volunteers!

Meet Mr. Ford, one of our Snow Team Heroes. He’s here to share some tips for safely shoveling snow and ice. A volunteer for 2 years, Mr. Ford loves giving back, helping his neighbors, and keeping our community safe and accessible.
