🔥 Close Call: A Reminder to Stay Vigilant
We had a scary reminder this week of how quickly things can change in these dry conditions. Deputies and fire crews responded to a grass fire near I25 and West Tomah Road. It burned approximately .21 acres before it was brought under control.
It is suspected that children playing with matches may have started the blaze. Due to the location and speed of the spread, one family had to be evacuated from their home as a precaution.
The Good News: Everyone is safe. There was no damage to any structures.
The Warning: With the weather staying warm and dry, our grasslands are like tinder. Fires in these conditions spread faster than most people can run. Please talk to your kids about the extreme dangers of matches and lighters, and help us keep Douglas County safe.
