Lovely morning at the GLAM staff viewing of the Bruegel to Ruben’s exhibition @AshmoleanMuseum. I was blown away by the remarkable Flemish drawings, paintings and prints- including the fantastic earthworm! Definitely a highlight 🪱

On Saturday I helped with the @BritishSpiders BENHS Members Day @morethanadodo. I only managed to attend one talk by Pete Eeles on British and Irish Rarities. Thanks @ukbutterflies for the shout out!

Thanks to @lucy_ella_ for spending the afternoon with me and lending her geological knowledge, and to @djemurdock for providing a bit of the Moon!

English

It was Super Science Saturday on the weekend and the theme was Our World From Space. Lucy and I took out some archive material related to @morethanadodo’s first Keeper, John Phillips, a geologist who used his telescope next to the museum in the 1860s to map craters on the Moon

Elizabeth Philpot (1780-1857) was a palaeontologist who collected fossils with her sisters and was knowledgeable about fossil fish. She is best known for her friendship with Mary Anning and her extensive collection of specimens, over 400 of which can be found @morethanadodo today

English

Mary Anning (1799-1847) was a palaeontologist, fossil collector and dealer, who discovered the first complete skeleton of a Plesiosaurus. It was described in 1824 at the same time as the Megalosaurus at @GeolSoc, but not by Mary as woman were not admitted as members until 1919

English

For #InternationalWomensDay , and to tie in with the #Megalosaurus200 anniversary year, I took out some items from @morethanadodo Archive related to Mary Moreland (nee Buckland), 1797-1857

Friends - have any of you gone straight from Heathrow to Oxford? I've done the reverse, but never gone straight FROM the airport to anywhere but London
But @MattLewisAuthor recent GM episode convinced me to move my flight up so I can catch the Chaucer exhibit at @bodleianlibs 😬
