as someone who's been fired for autistic meltdowns this thread is depressing & a stark reminder that the general public still has no idea what an autistic meltdown is, and thinks it's some sort of tantrum that can be avoided if you just try hard enough

Why not remove yourself from the situation before it gets to this extent? Of course you're being punished for acting out, you're at least 40 talking about lying on the floor and crying at work. That IS disstressful amd disruptive to others. I'm neurodivergent and would be FIRED.

@numptypants masking is what led to the meltdown lol. why are you surprised that autistic people would break under extremely stressful situations where they're not allowed even a minute to breathe to regulate themselves. not to mention i was freshly diagnosed with no coping skills

@thisischamina he probably tried to get to a safe spot beforehand but failed, meltdowns can come on very suddenly. sometimes you can feel them coming on and sometimes not, it can unfortunately blindside you

@50shadesof_EE @himederebunny genuinely no. on an 8 hour shift we were only allowed to pee during our 30 min lunch break between the 4 hours. they said we were 'too busy' to allow any of us to leave the floor even when it was totally dead lmao

@Baconpwn i'm on the waitlist for a free therapy service for autistic folks but the waiting list is over 6 years :/ they're really understaffed

@Baconpwn well yeah, that's the goal. but i can't access the services that help autistics with that. when i got my diagnosis i was informed that emotional regulation therapy started at $300/session. unfortunately many autistics live on the poverty line

@internet_xo many of us did, nothing happened bc it's a huge fast food chain & the manager was rich hopefully it's better now but even the employees who had been there for 15 years were so fed up they quit

Hard to imagine what “reasonable accommodation” is in this circumstance but it can’t be “let me have a meltdown whenever I need”

@UnprobableP bro they dgaf as long as they can get away with it. 14 of us collectively quit in the span of 2 weeks bc of the working conditions, they stole hundreds from our paycheques too. this is a top fast food chain btw 😭 one of the signs behind the register literally says 'no water'
