A father of 4 was brutally murdered by a Colombian gang. These are the comments on @instagram. But if I misgender someone, I get banned. And then they say "Jews are the only people you're not allowed to criticize".

Gaza Flotilla leader Thiago Avila is being kept in custody for further questioning about links to terrorism. He went to Hezbollah leader Nasrallah’s funeral so this is hardly surprising. He looks a bit humbled. About time.

@nic_amadio U are wrong. The pb is mass uncontrolled immigration from EU agreements. These need to be stopped & immigration brought back under control.

Swiss people complain about migrants as their country "inshittifies". And they might be right. But they might have also caused this themselves 😄 When a society gets old without making enough kids... Guess what 😯 You'll need to import migrants. If you stay business-friendly, you'll manage to attract high-quality, high-productivity migrants. And, if/when society ages, it also needs to grow in size to stay functional. Technology hasn't managed to bridge the gap enough for the above not to happen. Let's say you have 10 people and 7 are working and 3 are babies or retirees. If 3 babies/retirees become 5, you'll need to import ~4.5 people in working age to keep things working (and keep the ratio of working/non-working people somewhat stable). If your working age people also start working part-time en masse, you'll have to bump workers' import to ~5.5. So, yes: it's probably likely that Switzerland inshittifies as it imports more migrants, including from "less developed countries/societies". And that it becomes "less Swiss". But it's inevitable. Not only because of the positive dynamic of importing high-skill workers to fill in roles in high-margin industries. But also because of the meh dynamic of importing workers in low-margin industries to care for the aging population and build houses to host the population growth.

Switzerland GDP per capita in the last 20 years has been as stagnant as Germany's. In USD terms, it grew a bit more, since the Swiss Franc has appreciated a lot compared to the dollar. But also not that much. If the country is so innovative... And its economy so advanced and productive... Why isn't GDP per capita growing much more? Shouldn't the average Swiss be able to produce more value, compared to decades ago, after decades of innovation? The answer is no, and that's because: 1. Swiss people work less Huge amount of part-time workers, 17% of men, ~50% of women. 2. They're older Aging population means larger share of population sitting in economically unproductive societal roles. I.e. retirees hiking or sitting at home. 3. The Swiss Franc keeps getting stronger Companies need to cut their margins, can't afford to raise salaries, if they want to stay competitive. Product innovation apparently not enough to raise prices significantly to offset this. 4. Low productivity industries grow As population ages, elderly care, construction and healthcare industries grow. And they're less economically productive than tech, luxury or pharma. ---- It's interesting to look at the below table, and see how Switzerland's growth has been similar to Germany's, despite being more innovative. Or just marginally higher than Germany, in USD-terms. Also interesting to see how Italy completely destroyed its economy and how Poland built one almost from scratch. BTW, as you can see here too: talking about "the West". as if it's one big country, is ridiculous. There's very different Wests within the big West.

@nic_amadio I m highly educated (MBA, CFA), years of work experience in finance in big corporations. Yet was unemployed last year: spent a year sending hundreds of CVs. Got 2 interviews. 0 jobs. I know others in my situation in switzerland. So, whatever it takes.

Why is Switzerland population growing despite GDP staying almost stagnant? 🇨🇭 Aging society is a bit part of the why.

Following discussions between FIA, F1 and the Miami promoter, the decision has been taken to move the start of Sunday's Miami Grand Prix to 13:00 local time in Miami due to the weather forecast that is expected to bring heavier rainstorms later in the afternoon, close to the original planned race start time #F1 #MiamiGP

@mehdirhasan @cenkuygur That u rush to interpret this as a lie rather than a simple honest laps of memory (the guy speaks for a living, so him not remembering every word he has ever uttered is not crazy), & that u single this out as the most important part of the interview, says more about you than him.
