This is a great report detailing SF's problems from @WeAreTogetherSF. In short: San Francisco is not a strong mayor city, despite what you may have heard. Power actually lies with the Board of Supervisors. 1. It's the board who can pass the laws which govern residents and how our city departments work 2. It's the board that has discretionary review power over what housing is approved and even if someone can open a small business 3. It's the board who appoints people to commissions and has a veto over the Mayor's nominees, and it's these commissions that govern how city departments operate
