To their credit, Josh Logan and cinematographer Leon Shamroy thought it was going to be a far more subtle effect and despised how it looked. Apparently, studio executives, impatient and tight-fisted, didn't want to give them three months in the lab to fix the color.

Joshua Logan's color filters for South Pacific are truly the most absurd.
