@sama My hope is that the next decade of tech questions won’t be technological—they’ll be ethical. We already know what we CAN do. Now we need to decide what we SHOULD do. Those are humanistic questions, about how to get tech to better reflect human values

@BrandonLuuMD This isn’t an opinion editorial, it’s a syllogistic argument and it’s sound as a logical deduction from established premises. You can differ in the opinion or you can show why the premises are corrupt, but the comments generally show that people don’t understand how logic works.

Imagine arguing we should genetically engineer ticks to make people allergic to meat. Not parody. Published in a peer-reviewed bioethics journal.

Because of what Jeff Goldblum said in Jurassic Park, which applies to most tech entrepreneurs: "You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, packaged it, slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you’re selling it… you didn’t earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don’t take any responsibility for it." Speed without stewardship yields dystopia.

I don’t even know what to say about today. I just saw an ambulance 18 people were hiding in on October 7th that Hamas blew up with grenades. I talked to the survivor of Nova Festival About how he thought he was dead for the whole month afterwards because he couldn’t understand how he lived. I saw a fence that Palestinian civilians tore down to rape women on a farm full of the biggest Israeli peace advocates. I don’t even feel anything political right now. Just immense sadness. There’s so much grief baked into being a Jew.

@ad0rnai One of the first things I did as Faculty Senate Chair (faculty president) was go lean on the Deans of the various colleges to grant contracts to clinical faculty so they could rent apartments and not live in cars. That was 20 years ago. Things have improved a little.

I knew Zvi Kogan personally. I spoke to him a couple of hours before he went missing. I consider him a brother, and one of my closest and most loyal friends, a sentiment I’m sure others feel as well. This man was a larger than life person in every sense. Zvi is one of the primary reason I’ve moved to and loved living in the UAE. A world without you is a darker world. I miss you brother! Your smile will never fade you are 3d laser etched in to my memory forever. Keep laughing up there. Keep looking out for us like you always did.

This is a day for us to appreciate Chabad. Their emissaries move to far-flung places around the world, making it easier for Jews in those communities and for those visiting. They act selflessly and bring light to every community they inhabit - for the Jewish and non-Jewish community members. It is a light that must never be extinguished. In loving memory of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, may his memory be a blessing.

Beyond describing the workforce itself, I hope that in writing and thinking about it, I hope to also foster the conditions, the pipelines, and the education to cultivate this profession, and to craft a new vision for technological culture and production that centers human values
