To add to the problem of D-1 affordability, most HBCU's don't even offer 11.7 scholarships for baseball. Their baseball programs aren't fully funded.

Discussion 6% of players of MLB opening day rosters are black. Why is this number so low? What can be done to fix it? Where does fixing it start? IMO, the disconnect is magnified with colleges offering 11.7 scholarships. I (the teams I worked for) drafted some elite athletes (players), that could have been big leaguers, but chose to play college football because of the finances. I think young black kids are told from a young age that football and basketball scholarships are 100% and baseball scholarships (D1) are 25-35%. Go to a P5 baseball game, then go to a minor league game, and you'll see a tremendous racial-ethnic disparity. Why? Go to a college basketball game, then an NBA game and you'll see almost identical racial-ethnic makeup. Go to a college football game, then an NFL game and you'll see almost identical racial-ethnic makeup. Why?
