Let me trace the timeline here because nobody's connecting it. Step 1: Scrape the entire internet. Every book, every article, every conversation, every piece of art, every forum post. Do it without asking. Do it without paying. Step 2: Train a model on all of it. Call it "artificial intelligence." Step 3: Go to BlackRock's Infrastructure Summit and announce: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter." Step 3 is where you sell people's own knowledge back to them. On a meter. They took the collective output of human thought, compressed it into a model, and now they want to charge you by the token to access a version of what you and everyone you know already created. One Reddit user put it perfectly: "They stole all this data from us, the people, our life's work, creativity, art, by devouring the internet and blowing through all copyright laws. Now they want to sell it back to us in the form of a utility." Imagine if someone photocopied every book in the public library, burned the library down, and then opened a subscription service for the copies. That's the metered intelligence business model. And they're pitching it to infrastructure investors as though they invented water.

@wmnjoya Ati it was land conservation effort, and forced auction. Jaramogi saw through the subterfuge for what it was. Today we don't see, we don't recognise the sabotage for what it is

I'm reading about how the British, in the early 1900s, used to confiscate livestock in Turkana numbering 5,000, up to 16,000. And then when the Samburu raided the Turkana for 300 heads of cattle, the British fined them. Yani, it was ok for the British to steal cattle but not for other Africans to conduct cattle raids. Of course, the math wasn't mathing. The Turkana successfully staged a tax boycott against the colonialists, until the colonialists had to withdraw the tax. But in 1915, the British confiscated a staggering 130,000 head of cattle from the Turkana and killed over 400 warriors. Towards north eastern, the British used to confiscate livestock of Kenyan Somalis so that Europeans breeds would dominate the region and Somalis would be rendered poor due to loss of livestock. The British hated pastoralism (@m_ogada often reminds us that the wazungu and GoK still do) because it made the communities difficult to control, to reduce to forced labor and extract taxes from. So they attacked their livelihoods. And they brought rinderpest. Northern Kenya was governed as "closed districts." People from those regions were not allowed to leave without permission from the colonialists. The act was repealed in guess when? 1997. Yes. And then I remembered Huduma Namba and SHA in which the government proposed means testing, where people's ID cards and SHA contributions included data on the livestock they owned. What I feel reading this is a mixture of anger and horror at that level of looting, surely. And anger that GoK can still be thinking like this in the 21st century. And that this information is not readily accessible. Eesh. pambazuka.org/index.php/nort…

@_mpekethu_ Surely you instructors advocated for dignity for the cadavers. You have the opportunity to study them in your search for an education. some people sign up to be used for research surely they are accorded some dignity

I don’t think there’s a burial at the end cause by the time you’re done dissecting a cadaver, all that’s left is weird chunks of flesh and bone. I think they cremate the tissue and clear the bones so that they can be used for further teaching

@democritus_wri There is this book called Parenting the strong willed child, Rex Forehand & Nicholas Long. It takes about modeling the desired behaviour and showing up as predictable and consistent. I found it more useful in working with troublesome adults 😂😂😂

A friend of mine earns Ksh 150,000 per month and works in a good IT job. He asked me if he should take a Ksh 10 million mortgage so he can stop “wasting money on rent.” Right now, he pays Ksh 65,000 rent for a 3-bedroom house in Nairobi. Here’s how I explained it to him in a simple way: If he takes a 30-year loan at 13%, his monthly payment will be about Ksh 110,000. At first, that sounds okay. But when you look deeper, it’s not. Over 30 years: — He will pay about Ksh 39.6 million — That means Ksh 29.6 million is just interest Now think about his salary: If he earns 150K and pays 110K to the bank, he is left with only 40K. That 40K must cover everything: - Food - Transport - Family needs - Emergencies - School fees - Savings That is very tight. One small problem, and he can’t keep up with payments. Now compare with renting: If he continues paying Ksh 65,000, he remains with Ksh 85,000 every month. That extra money can: - Be invested - Build savings - Buy land - Help him plan better for the future So yes, owning a house sounds good. But if it leaves you with no money, it becomes stress, not success. My advice to him was simple Wait until your income grows or the house can make money for you. Sometimes, renting is the smarter move for now.

@tiny_charoh In Jaramogi's book, Not Yet Uhuru, he narrates his childhood, he says ukipatikana hujafanya kazi ama unarega rega, your mum is told to do something to correct you. If she doesn't, action is taken against her. His mum was sent away once because she was lenient.

One of the older kids in the hood asked me the other day what the point was of being honest and doing the right thing (not doing assignments with ChatGPT, not lying, not stealing, not using company/public funds on yourself, not promising nonsense in 6 months' time, etc). Because, as far as they could tell, there is plenty of evidence that it is precisely the people doing these things who come out on top. If anything, those on the straight and narrow are on a path of pain, inconvenience, and loss. I thought about it for a minute and then said rather than give a canned, cliche response, let me take a few days to think about it, because, to be honest, I too am struggling to be OK in a world where unashamed scoundrels are the ones running the show, leering at us daily from podiums

@ahmadsalims Are the aspirants showing up in other ways, idk for example, attending funerals, church, talking to self help groups, engaging community based organisations with presence not just monetary contributions. Talking to people on top of cars can't be all there is to it.

I've spent some time with more than 3 aspirants on the ground in the last few weeks. One thing I can tell you is this online community is living in a bubble… a bubble where we hope for a perfect nation. On the ground, it’s about money. Fam, 200 bob buys you loyalty today. 200!!! I am so pissed. No one wants to listen to job creation, no one cares about development. No one gives a fuck about your policies or plans. They care about what you leave behind for them when you meet. We are the problem. We the voters are the problem. Today a clueless thug will be popular because he dishes out cash and has zero, I mean zero policies or plans for a constituency but will be loved. An MP campaign is budgeted between 7-9M where 70% is forced to be budgeted as handouts. WTF!!! It’s always been the trend and sadly it’s getting worse.

The form we are on towards the end of the season is insane, we are scoring 3 goals from 4 shots on target but we started the season sometimes scoring nothing from up to 9 or 12.
