• Parramatta accepted a $250,000 compensation payment from Melbourne to reduce Lomax’s contracted period from three years to two
• Despite that, the Eels refused to release him for 2026 and 2027
• Storm tabled a late deal to take on Ryan Matterson’s contract + pay a $300,000 transfer fee
• Matterson is owed around $400k this season but was reluctant to join Melbourne, killing the move
• If Matterson agreed, Lomax would have been released immediately
• Instead, Melbourne miss out — and Lomax remains in NRL limbo until 2028
