KYC is already in Banks and SIMs. Still people get cheated on calls and money goes from their bank accounts to fraudster accounts.

It’s clearly more about money and visibility.
Here’s why and let me get it right. Correct ne if wrong.
Right now, if you post about US politics, there is a huge global audience. More eyeballs, more engagement, more payout. Even if you are sitting in Mumbai, you can farm attention from New York or Tokyo.
What X is saying is this:
We will still show your content globally. But we will pay you more when your own region engages.
So if Indians engage with your content, that counts more than Americans doing it. Same for any country.
Why?
Because creators were chasing “profitable audiences” instead of “relevant audiences”. Everyone was shouting about the same few topics just to earn.
Now, does this hurt freedom of speech?
No. You can still say anything. Nothing is being blocked or censored.
But it does change incentives.
Earlier: say what gets global outrage.
Now: say what clicks with your people.
That is not censorship. That is economic steering.
Think of it like a stand up comic.
You can still tell New York jokes in Ahmedabad. Nobody will stop you.
But you will earn more laughs and money if you talk about autos, weddings, and local chaos.
Same stage. Same mic. Different reward system.
The real impact?
Lazy trend chasing will drop.
Local storytelling will rise.
And some people who built their voice on foreign outrage will suddenly feel invisible.
That shift will hurt egos more than freedom.
