The war with Iran did not cost $200B; it convinced the American military that it needs more equipment of certain types for future wars with near-peer rivals, like Russia and China. An example: The US decided to increase its B-21 fleet to 145 airplanes. To achieve that goal, the Pentagon wants to establish a second production line, AKA factories, to speed up the construction process. While this is the result of a lesson learned through this war, it is NOT the cost of the war but rather the cost of equipment that would be used in future wars. If anything, the situation helped America avoid a potential future catastrophe.
