@MartianHoplite @ThruTheHayes Student loan debt stays no matter what since it's guaranteed by the government to lenders. Basically the only debt you can't bankruptcy or default on. They can also garnish wages, but if she doesn't work I'm not sure how that would work

A lot of talk on here lately about how women are unmarriageable because of their student debt. Maybe I'm naive but can't she just be a stay at home wife and mother and default on the debt while the man works to take care of all the expenses? What's preventing this?

@Rabadash2 they're working on it they just need to complete the decades-long political project of restricting housing supply first

Why doesn’t your landlord just raise your rent to eleventee bajillion dollars then? Afterall, if the cost of housing is just because landlords are raising it for fun, there should be no downside to this right?
Gemma@windupgemma

My last rent increase was because the landlord noticed that the market rate for the area had gone up Not because his costs went up, but because other landlords were charging more in my area and my landlord felt left out and thought I should pay him more for the same thing

@NickyFrank30 the stock market is not booming. the stock market is stagnant with the mag7 hyperscalers propping things up with a speculation bubble. kinda like how the top10% of earners are propping up the consumer economy

@munchgod3000 I think like old guitars the heavy hitters will stay crazy priced (strats and les pauls, shelby mustangs, air cooled 911s, etc) but the also-rans will start to come down to earth

Approximately almost $600 billion worth of collector cars are held by Boomers and Silent Gen waiting to be passed on currently, I wonder if these cars will hold their value once those 2 generations pass

@del4rel @gonrrhea Was this really necessary? There is more evidence for pilates improving posture than strength or hypertrophy, like this one #d=gs_qabs&t=1779736327951&u=%23p%3DA6iQcrInxWAJ" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&…

@AnitaSmoke420 @gonrrhea Yeah and you can do that version of pilates at LA Fitness for $30/mo. The reformer pilates machine costs ~$2k a piece and those studios are also selling semi-private instruction (i.e. exclusivity + aspirational physiques/lifestyle)

@BenOgorek @gonrrhea Even in a sea of ignorance this is one of the dumbest statements I've seen on here. That's like saying there isn't peer reviewed research supporting eating except for poop.

@CameronCorduroy That's because a lot of those people would have been living like kings in the 90s economy and instead you have dual$100k couples still "struggling" because half their income is eaten by housing and education costs

@Padreshub Empirically no. Almost zero daylight in his fWAR vs Cronenworth and Xander (minus injury). You can say he is economical for his contract but him having a good quarter of a season every year has nephews convinced he's not mid.

@avispartan1 Pandemic's greatest impact is the sudden supply chain price shocks not tanking the economy revealed there is lots of room for "price just went up fuck you" + asset bubble

Liberal economics tells us this isn't possible because the landlords will compete with each other to lower prices, in reality landlords aren't stupid enough to start self-ruinous price wars and instinctively understand that the tenants are the enemy!

@del4rel Okay, then what are the material economic conditions you can point to that economic sentiment has been reliably tracking? Is this something you've actually seen demonstrated, or is it an assumption?

Because you morons have a fundamental misunderstanding of sentiment polling. People don't in the abstract think it's "worse than 2009" (although things are bad right now and will get worse) they *have no confidence that things will improve from now* because why would they!

@CredenceClearoj It's the opposite. The real economy is based on material economic conditions (i.e. costs vs wages, career advancement opportunity, etc) and the stock market is based on vibes. "Economy" is being propped up by AI bubble which shows zero signs of actual profitability any time soon

@PunishedGramsci So you agree that economic sentiment has recently been divorced from economic indicators and is now based on vibes? We should come up with a name for that.
