@60Minutes I adjusted the levels and ran it through some filters so you can hear that it's NOT a natural sound - people need to hear this:

I can't get over the fact that Dune is about an oppressed people fighting for their homeland, waging a jihad to bring down a hegemonic empire by threatening to cut off the flow of their most precious commodity after the empire had assassinated their religious leader's father.

You know what I think? I think it is time countries of the region and the world announce to the US they are removing the siege from Cuba by hook or by crook, through assertive action or direct war, whatever the US chooses. Assemble a multinational fleet and go to Cuba. Mexico and Brazil should participate with their marine forces, and any other country in America that has Cuba at heart. Take the US to the test. If it wants to genocide Cuba, it will have to fight a rel war against a real military force. And ask Iran, China and Russia for help. I am betting the US will fold. People and nations need to step up and do more to free people from the suffocating grip of the US. Start sending them home from everywhere. Enough!

Right-wingers have gone so insane that I initially misunderstood this comic as being like "no actually the Germans were bad" before I realized what it was actually saying "Actually the Germans were the good guys and it's sad we had to fight them,"

@NikWestinghouse @peteoxenham It could be the shape/texture is making it look different, even when it's not. The sample piece should be anodized with the same process, that's usually how 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩 samples work, it's not just an RBG estimate but rather they use the same dies.

@peteoxenham I couldn't tell. I have night mode on. But regardless, I was wondering if she would pull a spectrometer out and then instead she pulled an rgb sensor, so it does leave a mismatch possibility

CNN interviewed Qusai Abu al-Kebash, a 29-year-old Palestinian shepherd, who was sexually assaulted by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank village of Khirbet Humsa. He told @JDiamond1 that settlers zip-tied his genitals, paraded him through the village while beating him, threatened to rape women, assaulted children, and stole hundreds of his sheep.
CNN International@cnni

Israeli settlers have increasingly used violence against Palestinians in a bid to drive them from their homes in the occupied West Bank. But sexual assault appears to be a new weapon in these settlers’ arsenal of intimidation, pointing to a troubling new level of violence. cnn.it/4du8vj6

Painful, but actually this meme makes a good point, which is that if you spend too much of your economic output on defense tech you can get an edge, but the 'consumer' /quality of life suffers. One reason why the soviet union sucked was b/c so much of their GDP was in defense. US consumer culture seemed way better then what the soviets had but they maintained a space programs and military/nuclear hardware kept pace with ours in the 80s

@SJRichmond89 @vivian39_ Why would you waste money on something that costs more, is more dangerous, and politically difficult to get people to agree to? There is zero benefit (and don't say baseline load you can solve that with battery packs)

It's not just that they cost more, they also take longer to build. So if you invest $1b into solar you can literally build in a few months and in a few years you make back your investment. With nuclear it takes longer to even start producing energy then it takes to make back your investment with renewables.

nuclear energy is sitting right there. just sitting there. producing massive amounts of clean reliable power with a safety record better than literally every other energy source per kwh. and we're out here arguing about whether to put a solar panel on a parking garage. okay

So called environmentalists have been saying this about nuclear power since the 70s, and they've doomed us to climate catastrophe over a potential future issue that has shown no evidence of materializing in 70 years of nuclear power.

Looking at the world and our dependence on fossil fuels reminds me of when I was doing all my research for To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. Digging into the math of energy production completely and utterly convinced me that the only path forward for humanity is to just bite the bullet and build a ton of nuclear power plants. Nuclear is the only power source that's dense enough for humanity to keep advancing, both on this planet and throughout the solar system. Plus, it's nowhere near as dangerous as folks think. No one died from radiation at Fukushima, for example. And while nuclear isn't totally safe (nothing is), oil and coal kill a huge amount of people through pollution and knock-on political effects (see current events). There's no such thing as a free lunch. Energy is what allows for EVERYTHING in our modern world, and the more we can produce, the better life gets. But to do that, and cleanly, nuclear is the only real option at the scales we need.

The only reason governments build nuke plants is you need them to convert uranium into plutonium for nuclear weapons. Literally never made any sense economically. Maybe there was a window in the 90s where people started to worry about climate change and renewables were still expensive where there was an argument, but the costs for renewables have come down so much nukes are totally obsolete.

@Killroy2004 @paolini Nuclear is a waste of money compared to wind and solar. For the same amount of money you can build like 4x-5x as much wind and solar and they will have paid for themselves in electricity production years before a nuke plant would even come online.

@TheSolarShed 3% of land isn't just a small portion, it doesn't take account of you wanting to build on prime agricultural land not in the shade of mountains, flood plains, on roofs Etc. You want to take over the best agricultural land not simply 3% of land. You are a threat to food security.

Covering 3% of the UK with solar would generate as much electricity as the UK uses in a year. We have the solutions.
