I genuinely can't believe Democrats actually fell for this: EVERYONE IS RIGHT WING EXCEPT MUSLIM TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS THAT I OPENLY SIMP FOR AND MUSLIM THEOCRACIES THAT I ALSO OPENLY SIMP FOR.

The white Leftists dulled my empathy for the Palestinians when they thought harassment of American Jews was an acceptable trademark of their movement. I don’t have practice compassion if they are not willing to practice anti -bigotry.

@JakeTSelby @speechboy71 They weren’t a state though. It was a British colony and prior to that it was part of the Ottoman empire. The onus is on them to just not be suicidal maniacs hellbent on killing Jews and electing terrorist leadership. It’s really not a tall order. They need to join the world.

@speechboy71 They are the indigenous population that existed prior to Israeli colonization. It seems odd that the onus on setting the terms for ending occupation and apartheid is on the victims not the perpetrators. That is how Israel has successfully framed the debate for decades. No more.

@Etanetan23 @Evan_Rosenfeld Why not both? Dems absolutely have a growing antisemitism problem that should simply not exist in a liberal democratic party, regardless of Israel’s aggression in the region or Bibi. I agree with conditional aid and enforcing better behavior but we can walk & chew gum here

I really don’t understand what’s radical of conditioning aid and sales on a country that’s been violating intl law for seven decades. The democratic base finally sees Netanyahu not a cause but a symptom of a larger problem of Israel. It’s not on the dems to fix their base it’s on Israel to change course

Democrats are trying to buy time on Israel by making Netanyahu the whole issue. It is a way to appease an increasingly radical part of their base without admitting how far that base has moved from even conditional support for the U.S.-Israel alliance.

@Evan_Rosenfeld Well stated. We need Democratic leaders to stop talking in platitudes & acknowledge these gaps in understanding, & confront these dark corners of the Left that are growing wider & darker. We need a sober understanding of the complex history, the alliance, & why it matters.

Popstonox@Popstonox

Hasan Piker asks NJ-12 candidate Dr. Adam Hamawy (@HamawyForNJ) if he supports a full arms embargo and sanctions on Israel "Absolutely. 100%. The Iron Dome is insulating Israel from having to deal with consequences. It's like giving a bully body armor to go bully people more. We need to have them feel the effects of war, and then they'll stop and actually have a conversation."

@mattyglesias @MaxNordau There are millions of Israelis and Jews that support a 2SS, less now sure, but there are tons of Jews sympathetic to a 2SS. Find me this support on the Palestinian side? In the Arab diaspora in general? Where are these voices calling for peace and dual existence? Crickets …

The belief that global perceptions of Israel are totally unrelated to Israeli conduct is extremely widespread, both in Israel and in American pro-Israel circles. It's also wildly implausible and helps explain a lot about both Israeli behavior and Israel's cratering reputation.
Peter Savodnik@petersavodnik

There was little, if anything, Israel could have done to resist the leftist, identitarian turn. Once you view the Jewish state as an outpost of settler-colonial white supremacist villainy, it really doesn’t matter whether it’s good at politics or diplomacy.

Sam Harris' take is weird. Zohran Mamdani soft-pedals Islamists, yes, but that doesn't mean that he is an Islamic conservative himself. He seems to just be a leftist. I say as someone who has been making the case that Mahmoud Khalil for example is an Islamist.

If Zionism simply means the right to continued Jewish self-determination in Israel, then I’m 100% a Zionist. If Zionism means expansion, supremacy, and subjugation, then I’m not. Anti-Zionists blur these definitions so they can condemn the second while meaning the former.

@thedecoderx @strxwmxn 1. No it should not, most people don’t support the settlements in west bank. 2. That’s an insane conflation, and really a moot point. Land purchases and swaps happen, especially post War, & a war has been fought over this question Israel won every time. When is it enough?

@strxwmxn 1. Does Israel include the West Bank? If you say yes, you support expansion and subjugation. If you say no, do you support forcefully evicting all settlers? 2. If Israel taking more land is wrong, then creating the state by taking land was also wrong.

@Marxandmax @strxwmxn I always ask people on the I/P conflict, “ok but what do you want? What’s the solution?” And it always comes back to Israel being annihilated in one way or another; displacement, dissolution of borders, etc. that is their end game unfortunately. And so the terror continues

@K_AminThaabet Just listen to all the rabid antisemites in the comments. You really struck a chord. The Palestinians never wanted peace, they want Israel destroyed. And this desire is why they live in permanent hell and suffering. Oh well, now Bibi gets to chop it up and sell it off

Israel had a massive left-wing movement and left wing governments. They tried earnestly for years to make peace, and received suicide bombings in return. Because for the Palestinian “partner” the peace process was tactical, not strategic. Somehow this is all forgotten today.
