There are so many little ones running around The Refaat Alareer Camp! Their laughter and play lightens the mood of the camp and our team members on the ground. But all these young children and babies need diapers, and even some older ones who suffer from debilitating diseases and injuries. We recently made a bulk purchase of 200 double diaper packets for $21 per package and delivered one to each child who needs them. Diapers continue to be one of the most requested item and now with borders closed once again we anticipate prices to rise drastically. Once one of Gaza’s most densely populated areas and neighborhoods, they have now become a graveyard of rubble, struggling to contain the thousands returning from the south to a place with no homes, no infrastructure just destruction. Yet, amid the devastation, we are still delivering daily water trucks there and yesterday we delivered 150 hot meals of chicken and rice to families in Al-Shujaiyah who have nothing left. Each meal contained 1 kilo of cooked spiced rice with half a chicken. Moreover, we switched our oven in Jablia to make pita bread instead of sajj bread as it's denser and more nutritious. And finally, after days of waiting and finding a place in line, at 7am today Al-Rashid Street was opened for pedestrians to make the trek home. We are so honored to be there every step of the way. The Sameer Project has been planning for this moment. Planning to support, help, and celebrate those retuning.
