I’m going through my Whatsapp chat history with Eusebius, struck by our conversation around the death of Karima Brown. He had sent me this from our favorite Jozi oracle. He certainly stood just as tall.

“Culturally coloured, politically black” RIP Eusebius McKaiser, an intellectual giant, an incisive mind, an outspoken and fierce defender of truth and justice. We mourn. Rest in power, king ✊🏽

This is terribly tragic and shocking. Eusebius was clever, razor sharp and incisive. A patriot. He could advance a debate like no other and his voice will be missed. I never once read, saw, or heard anything by Eusebius McKaiser that didn't make me think, rethink, laugh out loud, or shout at my radio. He was a giant of South African rhetoric, a lover of language, a stirrer of emotions. His voice, booming & mellifluous, was a force of nature.

O for this to have been fake news. An important journalistic voice is no more. Rest in Peace, Eusebius 💔🙏🏼🇿🇦
