Hellas/Greece and the Hellenes gave us everything. Culture, language, myths, architecture, art, knowledge, and laid the foundation for Western civilization. They deserve better. Shame on Nolan.

@Alonso_GD If I show you that renowned Greek professor of classical philology D. Maronitis, who was born in Greece and lived in Greece and taught Ancient Greek in Greece, translated that word to “wretched bitch” in modern Greek, will you delete your account? x.com/romanhelmetguy…

For fun, let's look at how actual Greeks translate this line of the Odyssey into modern Greek. When Helen calls herself κυνώπιδος, the Greeks translate that into άθλιας σκύλας, which means "a wretched bitch." I don't know about you, but I trust the Greeks more than Emily Wilson.

Emily Wilson completely changed the meaning of a key word in the Odyssey to make it seem like Helen of Troy didn't blame herself for starting the Trojan War, when in fact the text makes it clear that she did. In 4.145-146, Helen calls herself κυνώπιδος (dog-faced). This is an insult meaning "shameless." It is commonly used to refer to unfaithful lovers. For example, it is used elsewhere in the Odyssey (8.319) to refer to Aphrodite after she cheats on Hephaestus with Ares. Fagles translates 4.145-146 to: "all you Achaeans fought at Troy, launching your headlong battles just for my sake, shameless whore that I was.” Lattimore translates 4.145-146 to: "for the sake of shameless me, the Achaians went beneath Troy, their hearts intent upon reckless warfare." Wilson completely changes the meaning of κυνώπιδος to "hounded" (she is trying to be cute by translating 'dog-faced' to a word that still relates to dogs, even though its actual meaning is completely unrelated). She then applies this word to the Achaeans, saying that they were hounded, not Helen. Her translation is in the image below. This is obviously an ideological change that she made because she personally believes Helen shouldn't be blamed for the Trojan War. She deliberated distorted the meaning of one of the foundational texts of Western literature to conform with her modern beliefs.

@emubrigadier @romanhelmetguy Yes, the Greeks. That’s how we, the Greeks, translate it. We don’t need clueless morons telling us about our own language. Now fuck off. Do you want it in Greek too?

@tanpukunokami Leftists were brainwashed by Marxist ideology. Marxism teaches you to hate your own nation because you didn't get what you "deserved." It is a loser mentality and ideology rooted in one of humanity's worst sins: envy.

Why do leftists around the world hate their own countries so much? They mock their own culture. They laugh at their own people’s concerns. And the moment someone tries to protect their country, they call them racist. Then somehow, they still think they’re the good guys. So it wasn’t just Japan. Leftists are an embarrassment everywhere.

Elon didn’t start SpaceX to build a rocket company: “The original vision for SpaceX was not to start a launch company. Elon’s original goal was to increase NASA’s budget, and he was willing to just burn 100 million dollars on a philanthropic mission to display a greenhouse on Mars. Shooting a greenhouse to Mars with existing rocket technology, get this photo on the front page of every paper. A little plant on the red planet, the first time life had transferred to another planet. That’ll probably increase NASA’s budget and spur this wave of exploration and interest in space. When he tried to do that, he discovered that the space launch market was so expensive and un-innovative and hadn’t been moving forward. That’s actually how he discovered the opportunity to start SpaceX. That’s what’s actually going to move this market forward.”

A simple Google search with images shows that "Xerxes" brings up first the images from the movie 300, ahead of any information about the real Achaemenid ruler. Furthermore, all the related searches for "Xerxes" are related to the movie. Persians have every right to be angry and Greeks know full well that Nolan's movie is going to define The Odyssey for a generation or two at least in the eyes of the public. Movies have way more cultural influence, especially in this era of memes, than the real history. Just go and google "Helen of Troy" and you'll find that Lupita Nyong'o already appears just as often as Diane Kruger, even though Nolan's The Odyssey hasn't even come out yet. The Greeks are having their culture and history increasingly defined by woke Hollywood's pathological need to pander to certain demographics, ones that never include the Greeks themselves. And whenever anyone in the world googles Greek history now they're going to increasingly just get Hollywood's woke bastardizations as the first (functionally the only) page when they do an internet search.

Madam Archaeologist@madamarchaeo

Anybody who says that Iranians can’t be mad about the way King Xerxes was portrayed in 300 because it was based on a comic book… It really doesn’t matter that it was based on a comic book. The point is, most people will never take an interest in ancient Persia. When anybody mentions ancient Persia, this is the image that will come to mind. Iranians have the same right to be angry as Greeks are over Helen of Troy. More people watch movies than read history. It’s a sad fact. How we portray figures from history or specific cultural contexts, therefore, matters.

When you say "killed 129", it kind of undersells the fact that they cut the fetuses out of pregnant women, gouged out eyeballs, castrated men, and raped women with knives This info was kept out of the media, instead focusing on the bombings that occurred. It was also kept out of the media that the terrorists had arrived through the asylum system, which had such little oversight that it somehow didn't catch a cluster of known ISIS fighters entering the country
Dries Van Langenhove@DVanLangenhove

Mohamed Bakkali, the logistical brain behind the Paris and Bataclan attacks that killed 129 and wounded hundreds more, is allowed penitentiary leave by the Brussels court. If Bakkali continues his “calm and good behaviour” according to the court, he could soon be freed indefinitely.

It is not just Henry Nowak. There is a presumption in media that when a black person is killed by a white it is a national news hate crime indicating a terrifying systemic problem, while when a white person is killed by a black person, it is an ordinary local crime story. That is why the killing of Iryna Zarutska was ignored in national media until the horrifying video of her death went viral. That is why you know the names Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin, but you don’t know the names Tessa Majors or Cannon Hinant. That is why there was limited national coverage of the 2023 incident in Tulsa when Isaiah James Gilford shot and killed two random white men at gas stations because he hated white people. That is why you didn’t hear about the Fresno massacre in 2017 when Kori Ali Muhammad killed four people to get revenge for racism. Or the Fon du Lac, Wisconsin killing of Phillip Thiessen, who some maniac intentionally side-swiped with a truck like a Grand Theft Auto character because he believed white men riding motorcycles were white supremacists. There are dozens of stories like this. But they’re all unrelated incidents that are part of no larger picture and shouldn’t be a subject of national concern, while police killings or white-on-black incidents are all connected to America’s sordid history of white supremacy and the ongoing scourge of systemic racism.
