@HTSCommodities Yards are empty and they’re beginning to realize that the border will stay closed.

For all the supply losses due to the US/Mexican border closure Texas #cattle feeders stepped up and bought 10% more cattle (cows??) in December 2025 than 2024, the absolute number remains at the bottom of the historical range. Texas was the only state to increase YoY purchases in December.

A counter seasonal price rise in the choice cutout is occurring as #cattle slaughter declines and beef supplies fall. Yesterday 1/20,Tyson closed the Lexington, NE plant (5,000 head/day) and is running at 50% capacity in Amarillo, TX (3,000 hd/day down from 6,000 hd/day) as the company fired 1,800 team members.

Screwworm research. 200 miles to go. Screwworm life cycle is 3 weeks. Ideal temp for dispersal is 60-85. But as soon as overnight temp gets above 60 the bug can reproduce and move.Can advance as much as 50-100 miles during 3 week life depending on wind and host availability.
