@elijahwood It was a pleasure to meet you and Sean, although very briefly, at Planet ComiCon in Kansas City earlier today. If I can pray for you in any way, please let me know.

@jaysonyork It can be. I mean, hopefully the missionary is saved already, although if wouldn’t be the first time God saved a preacher in the process of preaching. But it can be something God uses to move us towards what He wants to do with us. It can be a catalyst for spiritual growth.

I have to disagree with this. I am an advocate of short-term mission trips. Although I am quite sure some of them are nothing more than a sightseeing opportunity, I know that is not always the case.
Jayson York@jaysonyork

Unpopular pastoral opinion #17 Most short term missions trips serve little/no benefit to anyone. Occasionally disaster relief or specific evangelistic outreaches are impactful. Most trips are Christian tourism or a form of international youth camp Mostly a waste of time/money

@DrFrankTurek ESV. After that, I like the LSB but it has a few quirks. And I like the HCSB (and a little less, the CSB).

When people say there's still racism in the SBC, this is it. "We're the guys who know how to racially discriminate for good." You'd think the Civil War would've knocked the shine off this belief. But "how can it be wrong if I'm so good" seems to live eternal.

@MBLinton @jrwhitehead I can’t speak for Jon, but I would say “good” is your intention, not the actual result. The actual result defies God’s Word which condemns partiality, so it would be the opposite of good.

@MBLinton @jrwhitehead At any particular time for any particular job with any given set of applicants, you and I have absolutely no idea what color all the qualified will be. And that’s the point. Should only works if you make color one of the qualifications.

@MBLinton @jrwhitehead "Should"? Based on no other factor than the color of their skin? How is that different than how pre-Civil War-type racism worked, except for what the preferred colors are?

@mattnightingale Science isn’t quite as settled as you pretend it is regarding climate change. Also, the proof of any theory like climate change is its ability to predict the future. So far, we still have our coasts in pretty much the same place, there’s been a gain in the ice caps, etc.

@MBLinton Choosing a person because they meet a “diversity” criteria and not because they meet the requirements for a job is partiality, which is condemned throughout Scripture.

@bartbarber Dr. Rogers taught us that slowly, eventually, all committees get filled by the work and philosophy of the president.

@masonmennenga @h_um_ble_ We are each capable of doing a great many things. Not all of them are appropriate. But as for women gifted to teach, God gave them an assignment - teach younger women.

@masonmennenga Homosexuality is a sin. To say it’s not is false teaching, leading both little and big ones astray. I think your prejudice against Bible-believing Christians prevents you from seeing that we can be and are friends with those who pursue the homosexual lifestyle.

even if you believe being gay is a sin (it’s not), jesus was friends with sinners and even protected them from being killed but i don’t see conservative christians doing any of that with LGBTQ people

@JoshuaWPowell Not trying to complain, but I am concerned. By comparison, one could say termites are just a small problem for a house, but it wouldn’t take long for that small problem to be devastating. And TBH, with no transparency, I’m not sure how much faithful gospel work we’re getting.

Yes! This is our “One sacred effort!” No org. is perfect. But when people judge the whole by the small percentage of problems while overlooking the vast amount of faithful gospel work being done, it often reveals a heart looking to complain not give thanks!

If the primary reason we come together is to cooperate for missions and education: being at IMB, meeting our church planters, and being on campus at any of our seminaries, helps you to see that things are going very well.

@deaninserra @DustinDeVito We seem to be struggling with that “like-minded” thing, if we can’t even pass a simple thing like the Law Amendment. Also, I think there’s probably one seminary that would fall outside of this bubble. But it’s probably best I’m not in PR.

Notice I said “primary,” not only, but certainly primary. People can certainly have different opinions on what is and is not disclosed financially to the public outside of the trustees. I also think our convention of churches is very “like-minded” on the essentials that make us baptist. A visit to our seminaries and meeting our missionaries makes that very clear. The things we support together.

@farmingandJesus I’ve never really looked into polls on this topic, mainly because polls are absolutely irrelevant on a subject God has addressed. Women are not to be pastors, and if they think they are called to be a pastor, it’s not God who is doing the calling. God is not double-minded.
