@fiatjaf this problem can't be reconciled with intact censorship resistance unless nostr topology changes dramatically big public nostr relays are no better than big public social networks, because their owners will necessarily censor

@LukeDashjr It's too early to invest in crypto. 2 to 5 % of your wealth investment is fine, even if you lose it. If anyone wants to spend more than 5 % of their wealth from savings not considering their property and other investments, then WAIT FOR REGULATION TO GO 100%. In such cases.

@cameri I think centralized entities can only be excluded by requiring in-person key exchange for relay access.

Would you mine a public key so you could use an exclusive Nostr relay that only allows ones beginning with 32 leading zero bits (hex) or a BIP-39 word (npub)? This is an experiment to combat spam.

type-safety and memory-safety prevent an entire class of manipulative, exploitative, and abusive software bugs. decentralization prevents an entire class of manipulative, exploitative, and abusive societal bugs. freetheinter.net

@bettersafetynet the fewer, the better. the degree to which we use centralized services is the extent that we are exposed to attacks on them.

@deprecateTheWeb huh? By this logic we shouldn't have banks because it makes it easier for attackers to steal money. Or am I looking at this wrongly? I think you *have* to have consolidation at some key points in systems.

Some of the takes on LastPass are really strange. Hey infosec folks, please don't let perfection be the enemy of good. password managers are great and needed. IDK if I'd recommend LastPass anymore, but to say we need to move away from password managers is... way concerning.

#nostr is only a decentralized protocol if its adoption trends toward decentralization

@NotASithLord @fiatjaf should it be considered a decentralized protocol if its adoption results in centralization? I think it's centralization agnostic, much like http, irc, email, etc, because it doesn't necessarily result in decentralized architecture.

@deprecateTheWeb @fiatjaf Nostr is just a protocol. This is like saying web servers will have to grow so big they’ll need to handle all the HTTP traffic in the world at once. Or that torrent seeders need to handle all torrents etc. Not true. They can handle whatever subset they want.

@da_667 what options do most people have? there's a severe lack of viable alternatives to centralized social media services.
