No project management platform yet devised can hold a candle to one good traffic person.

I may disagree with the concept selected at the agency, but in front of the client, that same concept has my full support. We win or lose as a team. Some of you apparently did not get the memo. Never undermine the agency team in front of the client. Never.

No matter how long you work in advertising, it never gets easy to watch a strong concept that does everything it needs to do for the client, die a slow death of a thousand cuts (suggestions). And if you can sit there not upset, it is time for you to go. Your jadedness has won.

Did some baking with my boy the other day. If life gives you egg whites, make whisky sours.

@RGA I sort of got in trouble once for saying in a meeting, "I'm sorry why is it so cold in here, I thought hell was supposed to be hot, not this cold." Even my boss laughed before we had "a talk."

The passionate outnumbered by the mediocre will always be the villain. Folks need to stop lying, and own that they are only interested in doing mediocre. Stop recruiting and hiring passionate people and then forcing them to do average work. Stop lying to people and yourselves.

Now, if you are mass producing crap at the speed of light, the passionate are not for you. I'm looking at the advertising industry. Their standards will only get in the way. They unwillingness to compromise will be seen as arrogance and ego - they will be labeled bad teammates.

They are lying to you. You do not have to decide between passion and making money. Doing what you're passionate about well can lead to success. Too many mediocre mother-copulators have stepped to the mic, and proclaimed that being passionate is a hurdle to success. They lie.

@FinanceDirCFO True. I think you if you start by looking at the C-suites, you could eliminate a lot of waste. Every function does not need a C-suite position. Think about how much in bonuses, perks and salaries could be saved. I am not joking. Most organizations are too top heavy.

The size of the agency team has not been proven to increase the quality and effectiveness of the work produced. There has been no research one way or the other. Yet, we keep adding crap. Past work that has built amazing brands has tended to come from small teams. Go check.

While even our clients look to streamline their workflows, we in advertising have added more bodies, titles, processes and tools to look more productive. And we are idiots for this. No one in advertising wants to admit that the same work could be produced with less.

Nothing has to be complicated about creating advertising that meets the client's needs, not wants. At the encouraging (bullying) of clients, we have added all this extra to justify our compensation and the work. We have made advertising intentionally complicated.

Upset. And you wonder why your bosses think you can be replaced with AI. A concept is a human insight disguised as an ad. This level of understanding should not require a dog and pony show. It should be understood. Weak concepts lead to weak ads which leads to weak sales.

"Roughs" and/or "marker comps" should be more than enough to sell the initial concept. The more finished we have to be with the initial concept, the weaker it is. If it takes the actual copy, image and design for it to make sense - you have an idea, not a concept. Start over.

I don't need a computer to write an ad. My art director does need a computer to art direct an ad. Neither of us needs a computer to develop a concept. And neither does any 'real' creative. (I almost went too far right here)
