There are multiple dollar service fees on cell phone bills, electric bills, car registration etc that cost $100+ every year.

Starting in 2027, smartphones sold in the European Union will be required to have user-replaceable batteries designed for greater durability and more charging cycles. Manufacturers must also provide spare parts and repair manuals for at least 10 years after a model is released. This is real pressure against planned obsolescence. It should mean phones that actually last longer, cheaper fixes, and a lot less electronic waste piling up. About time.

Things I learned last night watching "Project Hail Mary." Amazon can, in fact, produce a movie befitting the cinema. Ryan Gosling is the best actor of his generation. The notion that puppetry could ever be completely replaced by CGI (or worse, AI) is the fever dream of morons. Rocky is the greatest onscreen Muppet since Yoda. Teens still want to believe in goodness, truth, and beauty (the row behind me was all noise and obnoxiousness during the previews, but they were captured once the story kicked in. They even applauded during a certain moment). Disney did not realize what they had when they fired Lord and Miller from "Solo." Andy Weir deserves his success. Movie popcorn and I are no longer on speaking terms. Hollywood needs to stop trying to engineer this sort of thing, and really just let movies live again. I can not only cry in a theater, but I can, apparently, still honestly laugh. That felt so good. I loved this film.

Portland City Council caught eating pizza, laughing, and yawning… while residents give public testimony. These are the same “leaders” who each pull in $133,000 a year while Portland spirals into one of the biggest messes in America. Look at them... chatting with each other, munching on pizza, cracking jokes, and yawning like bored college kids who never quite made it. All while actual citizens stand up and pour their hearts out about a base for ICE, homelessness, and a city that’s falling apart. A place where the people who couldn’t hack it after college now get to play government… and can’t even pretend to care when it’s their job to listen. This is who’s running Portland? How much worse does it have to get before they start acting like adults who were elected to serve?
