Across the discussions, a clear shift is emerging: fintech is evolving from building digital financial services to developing 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 capable of turning data into real-time insight and more responsive decision-making.
Representing @OticRwanda_ , our Country Director @RayRwema engaged with stakeholders exploring how 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 is beginning to influence the next layer of financial infrastructure — from institutional intelligence to more inclusive financial systems.
For us, these conversations reinforce an important truth: the future of finance will depend not only on innovation, but on the 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 that enable institutions to meaningfully adopt it.

Education institutions are under growing pressure to produce graduates who can operate in a world where decision-making, assessment, and productivity are increasingly shaped by intelligent systems.
In line with the @Educ_SportsUg mandate for institutions to transition from lecture-based models to 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, we recently partnered with the Ministry to work with teachers and staff at 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗼 on building the capability required to support this shift using AI.
The engagement addressed a critical gap across the sector: strong instructional expertise, but limited readiness to deliver competence-based learning with AI and structured blended learning with AI that supports training delivery, assessment, and learner governance.
Rather than replacing human expertise, the focus was on strengthening judgment, consistency, and measurable performance in an AI-enabled learning environment.
Building AI capability at the educator level is not a technology upgrade. It is a workforce and governance decision.
More insights to follow.

The design of robust AI policy necessitates an interdisciplinary approach, fused with systems thinking. To be effective, it must move beyond a purely technical framework and be consciously architected around a deep understanding of socio-economic conditions.

Across the world, conversations about Artificial Intelligence are reshaping economies and societies — yet Africa stands at a defining crossroads. The question is no longer if AI will transform our future, but whether we will be active architects of that transformation or passive observers of it.
As the global AI wave accelerates, the urgency for Africans to develop unified frameworks, strengthen capacity, and create locally relevant data ecosystems cannot be overstated. This is not merely about technology — it’s about sovereignty, inclusion, and shared prosperity.
In an interview with @cgtnafrica , our 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, @iam_rwema , engaged in a timely conversation on the need for a unified AI framework in East Africa — touching on ethical AI, localized datasets, and the importance of regional collaboration.
He further called on youth, innovators, and all stakeholders to take ownership of this revolution — to not only adopt AI but actively shape how it serves Africa’s social and economic transformation.
At @OticRwanda_ , a subsidiary of @OticGroup , we continue to pioneer these conversations — building toward a future anchored on three core pillars:
𝐀𝐈 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 – equipping talent with future-ready skills.
𝐀𝐈 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 – creating solutions tailored for our local realities.
𝐀𝐈-𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐁𝐏𝐎) – positioning Africa as a global knowledge hub.
The conversation continues — and it must. The time to act, innovate, and collaborate is now.

Speaking at the 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in Kampala, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗜 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿, @dylan_katamba, tackled a deeply important topic: how to prevent bias and ensure transparency in healthcare AI datasets and models.
A striking example comes from the U.S., where a widely used care‑management algorithm systematically under‑flagged 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. By using healthcare costs as a proxy for health needs, the system overlooked many patients who actually required extra care, showing how even well-intentioned AI can reinforce real-world inequities.
Healthcare is one of the most critical applications of AI today—it’s an area where mistakes aren’t just inconvenient or costly, they are life‑threatening. Ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI models is a deliberate responsibility we cannot afford to ignore. Every design decision, every dataset, every model has a direct impact on human lives.

At #InfoSec2025 @ISACAKampala, our 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, @ayebmartin, urged Ugandan SMEs to go beyond simply adopting AI to own the change with responsibility and confidence.
𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲:
• 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘂𝘀𝗲.
→ Protect customer and employee privacy by defining who can access what information. This builds trust and prevents costly missteps.
• 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗜 𝘂𝗽𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴.
→ Equip your team with tools like digital accounting and AI-driven operations to save time, serve customers better, and drive innovation.
• 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀.
→ Change is constant. Businesses that can quickly adjust sales, stock, or communication processes stay agile and seize new opportunities faster.
• 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁.
→ Use AI to empower, not replace, your people. Valued employees and customers create loyalty — and stronger long-term growth.
• 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
→ Designate who manages AI systems and data safety. Clear responsibility prevents small errors from becoming big problems.
💡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: AI will reshape daily operations, freeing up 60–70% of employee time.
African SMEs that adopt AI ethically and build strong human skills will thrive: earning customer trust, cutting costs, and growing sustainably.
