Almanya’daki Sprengel Müzesi’nde sergilenen sıra dışı bir kinetik enstalasyon: Havada sallanan bir şamandıra, Atlantik Okyanusu’ndaki gerçek ikiziyle eşzamanlı hareket ediyor ve dalgalar üzerindeki salınımını birebir taklit ediyor.

The older I get the more convinced I am that England's winters are the earthly embodiment of hell and its springs and summers are the earthly embodiment of heaven.

@IamBalhamMatt @edwest You came on a good day because Edinburgh can be pretty filthy, albeit nothing compared to Glasgow or many other UK cities. In general rich and rural places are a lot cleaner is about all you can say.

@edwest To be fair it’s London, and England primarily. Up in Edinburgh the other week I never thought the cleanliness would be as clearly noticeable as it was.

BOOKSHOP FIND HAUNTED HOUSES by Joseph Braddock. This dark beauty was published by Batsford in 1956. I found a first edition in its original cloth with dust jacket on a jaunt to the British Museum. I was drawn to the darkly veiled figure fleeing the house on the cover. The houses are all English and in varying stages of decay!

Postman at Diffwys farm, west Wales, 1955, photo by Geoff Charles. It took David Lewis Jones nine hours to complete his round in remote mountain areas between Tregaron and Abergwesn, though he only delivered to eight houses (People’s Collection Wales).

@mimimikikikiki5 @mindofprospect you’re mostly right. But I think there are pretty meaningful ways in which Scruton, Starkey and Major (less so maybe) are middle class. likewise if you raised a marquis in a council house he’d still be a marquis. It’s complex & I don’t think we’ll agree but imho you mostly right.

@mimimikikikiki5 @mindofprospect I think you can move because I think class is a complex mixture of things ranging from blood, through early life, to the present day, and that class is a relative social construct determined in part by how you behave and in part how other people see you. In practice this means…

@mimimikikikiki5 @mindofprospect What class are John Major or David Starkey? What class did Roger Scruton end up? You are mostly right (and that’s ok) but it’s not immutable. Some people do basically shed their roots. Not everyone and it’s complicated.

@des_mansfield @mindofprospect Money ≠ class & money doesn't buy class. U can get rich but class is abt culture, how/where u were raised, and nothing more or less. What sports u like, how thick ur accent is, etc. It's an identity. U can't ever get rid of ur cultural roots&that's ok. Should be a point of pride

Waiting for John Swinney to launch the SNP manifesto in Glasgow. You’ll notice the placard top left: “Price cap on essential goods”. This was a previous call made by the party in 2023: dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/…

@paulhutcheon That wouldn’t be capping, that would be substantially cheaper than most bus fares, they’re much cheaper in England. Our bus service is also awful outside cities, they’ve had 19 years, all they’ll do is pay consultants to say it’s not viable.
