Breaking the cycle. It's the subject I care a lot about these days. I've been around long enough professionally (and f**ked up enough times) to probably give some good advice. Especially if you're 1st gen Asian American, in UX, are introverted. HMU maybe I can help.

@scottbelsky +1. Even better is to be both an expert and be obsessed/have initiative.

Obsession & Initiative > Expertise observed: obsession drives curiosity (and adds fuel for exploring new edges and polishing to perfection), while expertise implies strong muscle memory (good for reliability and productivity) but not necessarily innovation or learning...

I look at the way a Figma file is laid out in similar fashion. It says a lot about: • how the designer thinks • what's their approach to design • how they process information To a certain extent, even the naming of layers. Though Figma AI will obscure this.

One of my favorite Steve Jobs sayings is the one where he discusses with engineers the layout and design of the circuit boards inside of the machine. “Nobody will ever know,” Steve said. But you will know." To this day, no other Steve Jobs quote has stuck as much as this one.

@kerem 💯 couldn't agree more. The hardest part for the untrained eye is knowing something is off, but not being able to articulate why and how to remedy it.

100% agreed. Visual sensors make up a massive part of ur sensory input. It can influence perception, evoke emotions, whoever tells you “eh we’ll figure out the visuals later” are basically giving up on all the potential you can hit with your design solution. You have to think visuals as part of your solution.

hey designers, is there a good solution for connecting data to design? I wanna populate them with real data. I found Kernel but seems like they are out of business? Suggestions welcomed! #data #design

Nothing like an in-person event to bring a team together. I met my team for the first time in person where we shared stories, joked, and really gelled as a team. I can't wait for the next one! Oh, and the cherry on the top–my team won the hackathon 🏆 (my first ever!)

Stumbled upon this site while looking for superscripts to use in Slack. (Maybe this should be a feature in Slack especially useful for long form writing) symbl.cc/en/

1. @FTC has taken action against Adobe and two executives for pushing people into subscriptions and then making it absurdly hard to cancel. Adobe ambushed users with hefty "early termination fees" and threw up obstacles when people tried to cancel. ftc.gov/news-events/ne…

What's the best / most fun tool to analyze a bunch of survey responses if I have the raw data in a CSV? Starting to do some analysis on my newsletter reader survey.

Curious if anyone’s worked with a software that converts an icon library (like font awesome) into SwiftUI code? #swiftui #design

@yilmazermananit Agreed. I think it's healthy to step outside our comfort zones. It's always surprising to me (and positive) when you're able to make connections when least expected.

I like to take part in different projects outside of my expertise. I think it keeps me fresh. Now, I will watch the hours of footage we shot for this documentary project and make an edit. As I said before, experience is much more than what we learn from Twitter. Go out and experience it. Experience is matter.

Need focus mode in Figma, where multi-player is turned off. Nothing induces more anxiety than having a freelance client hovering in Figma as you're designing (and in the zone). Instant buzz-kill. #productdesign #ux #figma

@scottbelsky Senior and above designers should absolutely have a "pm-lite" mode.

innovation in big co’s happens in small teams led by a “founder,” w/ collapsed talent stacks (where the eng or designer is also the pm, etc), and out of cadence of frenetic crowded stakeholder reviews littered w/ directions based on thin slice judgments. don’t scale until it’s working
