This is a really great thread. Like Emily, I also had to figure out how to translate the skillset I built in museums into a job in a different industry. Museum workers can be competitive candidates in different fields, and there's a lot more out there to learn & grow from.

Twitter friends in the arts: What are your favorite conferences, especially ones that: 1) address diversity/equity 2) allow you to meet prospective funders 3) focus on organizational health? Doesn't have to be tech-related. Looking broadly, so all suggestions welcome!

One of my goals this year was to be more aware of the diversity (or lack thereof) of my source list. To that end, I've been tracking (as best I can) the gender and race of everyone I quote in my stories. In the interest of accountability, some stats:

@djbaskin @sschinke Yes, that’s exactly my point, and I agree with you there! We need to solve the underlying issues so exasperated residents don’t turn to road furniture as some misguided temporary fix.

Some neighbors pooled together $2000 to dump 24 boulders into the sidewalk as a form of “anti-homeless decoration”. The city won’t remove them, so I put their rocks on the Craigslist free section.
