The question of fairness between Sindh and the federation The relationship between the federation and Sindh province has long been a topic of debate in Pakistan’s political discourse. Many political observers and citizens believe that history repeatedly reflects the pattern in which federal authorities have treated Sindh unfairly. From fiscal distribution to infrastructure development and political representation, numerous examples are cited to highlight the province’s grievances. One of the most frequently raised issues concerns the distribution of financial resources under the National Finance Commission Award (NFC Award). This constitutional mechanism was designed to ensure a fair and equal share of federal revenues for all provinces. However, critics say that Sindh has often faced cuts, delays and disputes over funds that belong to the province. These funds are crucial for development projects, social welfare measures and infrastructure rehabilitation. When allocations are delayed or short, the province’s development inevitably suffers. Another major complaint concerns infrastructure and federal development projects. Sindh is home to some of Pakistan’s most important economic corridors and plays a vital role in the national economy. Yet, many large-scale federal development initiatives have historically ignored the province. For example, the long-promised Sukkur-Karachi Motorway remains incomplete despite repeated announcements and promises. At the same time, the National Highway Authority (NHA) is responsible for maintaining the country’s national highways, including the main route between Sukkur and Hyderabad. Unfortunately, the condition of this highway has deteriorated dramatically over the years. Frequent traffic congestion, poor road surfaces, and poor maintenance have turned a few-hour journey into one that sometimes takes an entire day. Critics say such neglect reflects a broader pattern of institutional indifference to Sindh’s infrastructure needs. The sense of grievance in Sindh also runs deep in Pakistan’s political history. Sindh has produced some of the country’s most influential leaders, including Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Rani Benazir Bhutto. Both figures hold a unique place in the political memory of the people of Sindh. Their tragic martyrdoms during the reigns of ضیاء لعین and Pervez Musharraf are often seen in Sindh as moments when the province’s voice and leadership were silenced at the federal level. Beyond politics, the neglect of highways, delays in infrastructure projects, and constant disputes over fiscal rights have reinforced the perception that Sindh’s immense contributions to the national economy do not match fair federal treatment. Sindh hosts Pakistan’s largest port city and accounts for a significant share of the country’s economic activity, yet many residents believe that the province does not receive commensurate investment and development in return. For any federation to remain strong and united, all provinces must feel respected, valued, and treated fairly. Addressing Sindh’s concerns, whether they relate to fiscal distribution, infrastructure development, or political representation, is essential not only for the province’s prosperity but also for the stability and unity of Pakistan as a whole. True federalism requires transparency, fairness, and equal respect for the constitutional rights of each province. پاکستان میں خصوصاً پنجاب میں پٹرول اور ڈیزل کی حالیہ قیمتوں میں اضافے نے مہنگائی کا ایسا طوفان کھڑا کر دیا ہے جس نے عام آدمی کی زندگی اجیرن بنا دی ہے۔ اس مہنگائی کا سب سے زیادہ بوجھ شہری علاقوں کے ساتھ ساتھ دیہاتی علاقوں کے کسان اٹھا رہے ہیں۔ کسان پہلے ہی پچھلے دو سال سے اپنی فصلوں کی مناسب قیمت نہ ملنے کی وجہ سے شدید معاشی مشکلات کا شکار ہیں، اور اب پٹرول اور ڈیزل کی قیمتوں میں اضافے نے ان کی مشکلات کو کئی گنا بڑھا دیا ہے۔ کھیتی باڑی کا ہر مرحلہ ڈیزل سے جڑا ہے، اور جب ایندھن مہنگا ہوگا تو کسان کا نقصان بھی بڑھتا جائے گا۔ دوسری طرف حکومت دعویٰ کرتی ہے کہ پھلوں اور اشیائے خوردونوش کی قیمتیں ریٹ لسٹ کے مطابق دستیاب ہیں۔ لیکن حقیقت یہ ہے کہ ریٹ لسٹ پر شاید صرف ڈی گریڈ اشیاء ملتی ہوں۔ اگر کوئی شہری یا خاندان اچھا پھل یا معیاری گروسری خریدنا چاہے تو اسے آج بھی مہنگے دام ہی ادا کرنے پڑتے ہیں۔ مریم نواز شریف صاحبہ اور شہباز شریف صاحب، خدارا اس قوم پر رحم کریں۔ عوام پہلے ہی مہنگائی، بے روزگاری اور معاشی دباؤ کا شکار ہیں۔ ایسے فیصلے جو عوام کی مشکلات میں مزید اضافہ کریں، ان پر فوری نظرثانی کی ضرورت ہے۔

ایک طرف عوام کو کفایت شعاری کے لیکچر دیے جا رہے ہیں، سرکاری گاڑیوں میں 50٪ پٹرول کٹوتی کے اعلانات ہو رہے ہیں، اور دوسری طرف انہی حکمرانوں کے محلات کی تزئین و آرائش پر کروڑوں روپے عوام کے ٹیکس سے لٹائے جا رہے ہیں۔ یہی ہے اس وفاقی اور پنجاب کی حکومت کا اصل چہرہ عوام کے لیے قربانیاں، اور حکمرانوں کے لیے عیاشیاں۔ مہنگائی، پٹرول بم اور معاشی بحران کا بوجھ عوام پر ڈال دیا گیا ہے، جبکہ حکمران طبقہ سرکاری خزانے کو اپنی ذاتی جاگیر سمجھ کر لوٹ رہا ہے۔ یہ حکومت نہ صرف نااہل ہے بلکہ منافقت اور دوغلی پالیسیوں کی زندہ مثال بن چکی ہے۔ عوام سب دیکھ رہے ہیں اور اس ظلم و ناانصافی کا حساب ایک دن ضرور ہوگا۔ 👇
