Satoshi's Vision Satoshi's whitepaper assumed transaction fees would fund Bitcoin's security once block rewards ran out. That bet is not playing out. And nobody wants to talk about it. Right now miners earn 3.125 BTC per block. That halves again in 4 years. In 50–100 years, the subsidy is essentially zero. The only thing that keeps Bitcoin secure after that is fees. And fees only exist if people are actually using the network. Are people using the Bitcoin network? Outside of the brief ordinals boom... mostly no. Blocks are routinely near-empty. There hasn't been a sustained period of high fee demand in years. "Store of value" doesn't generate fees. People just hold it and do nothing. Some say: "Governments will subsidize mining." Or: "Energy will get so cheap it won't matter." Are we really betting Bitcoin's long-term security on a maybe? The actual answer is: create real reasons why people make Bitcoin transactions. That's it. Smart contracts on Bitcoin layer one mean every DEX swap, every stablecoin trade, every loan = a Bitcoin transaction with a fee paid to miners. Not because we forced it. Because there's economic incentive to use the network. That's how Satoshi intended this to work. @opnetbtc is making it happen.
