One of the biggest lessons from Tether is that they won emerging markets. Where most saw complexity, @Tether saw millions of people who needed better tech. Sometimes places ignored by old infra become the places where new infra wins fastest. Countries jumped over landlines and went straight to mobile. People skipped bank accounts and went straight to mobile money. And now parts of the world that were “off grid” have starlinks strapped to moving vehicles (pic from libera below). The next leapfrog is happening with agentic commerce. Most people are looking at institutions, but one of the biggest opps for the next generation of AI enabled financial apps is to bet on emerging markets and follow demand.

@StaniKulechov It’s the right approach. Managing a lending market deployement is hard as it is, managing it on complex chains with low adoption is an un-needed risk. Good choice imo.

The recent low adoption asset and network wind-downs on Aave should not be interpreted as a view on any L1 or L2. The goal is simply to reduce Aave's operational, technical, and economic risk surface so we can focus on higher-impact priorities such as growing existing high value markets and expanding to securities finance. L2s remain critical to Ethereum's user experience. For example, Aave App's Stable Vaults use an L2 as their accounting layer which will onboard mainstream into DeFi. Likewise, networks such as Avalanche play an important role in bringing RWAs onchain through institutional business development, an area where Ethereum has historically been lacking.
