@hnshah Thanks for sharing! Don’t beat yourself over it. All entrepreneurs suffer from shiny object syndrome, but that’s ultimately why we exist. Hindsight is 20/20, foresight is 0/20.

🙏🏽 I’m sharing a blog post tomorrow that doubles down on my failure (and lessons) running @KISSmetrics that led to missing out on a huge opportunity. Something I haven’t shared publicly yet.
David Cancel@dcancel

Very proud of my friend @hnshah for being vulnerable and sharing the hard lessons he learned during his tough experience at KissMetrics. 🙏🏽👏🏽 How loss of focus and a lawsuit brought about the slow growth and loss of momentum of KISSmetrics - mixergy.com/interviews/kis…

@BarbaraCorcoran "Get rid of all the crap that's taking your time. The only two things that really build a business are more sales and the right people to help you get there." Barbara, thanks for answering my question on #BusinessUnusual today!

One of the biggest advantages start-ups have is that they can move fast. Big companies are designed to make a very small number of impactful decisions. Start-ups can make tons of small decisions that can ultimately add up to be big.

@dcancel Just like entrepreneurs, every business is different. What works for one doesn't work for all.

@auren Internal threats. An attack from within an organization is much more dangerous and unpredictable than most external threats.

@auren We are a product of our environment and so were our parents. Society had influenced them to believe college was the epitome of future success so they simply did what they thought was right at the time.

parents say they want their kids to go a great college because they think it is best for the kid … but usually the real reason: so the parents can brag to their friends

@dharmesh Yup, it’s all about timing. The question isn’t “if” but “when” it can be automated. It’s just a matter of time before technology catches up and it becomes economically feasible.

@VivekxK @seanrose I don’t think they forget. It’s just that the Hacker News audience is primarily programmers, not businessmen. The opposite is also true on other sites where businessmen often overlook the value programmers bring.

@abatalion Sure, it exists but we’re still ways away from software writing 100% of itself through AI, self-awareness, etc. We still primarily rely on humans to build it. Think real-world Skynet.

@deven Arguably if programming is defined as “take input, do something, send output”…any deep learning algorithm that makes decisions is software writing itself, no?

Fill in the blank: _________ could be automated by technology, maybe not now but in the future… but shouldn’t? I’m struggling to come up with a long list. Note: I assume “automate” implies >= human capability.
