Expired Film | “Clean As Knives” Down in the Keys the palm trees stand like old fighters—leaning into the wind, quiet, and undefeated. I had a roll of expired film in my pocket, past its date and therefore honest. I shot the silhouettes of the palms against the first weak light—black shapes cut clean as knives, like they were guarding the shore. We slipped the ropes and eased out, leaving the dock behind before the day fully woke up—palms shrinking into a thin green line, the engine steady, the ocean ahead dark and wide.
