We need to connect people directly to treatment, stabilization, and long-term recovery instead of referring them to drug consumption sites. We are shutting down the Sheldon M. Chumir supervised consumption site in Calgary and reinvesting those funds into expanded addiction treatment, medical detox, recovery supports and 24-hour outreach teams that will help more people move from crisis toward recovery. Shutting down sites like this increases public safety, revitalizes local businesses, and gets those struggling with addiction into the programs they need.
