Main Street Summit is a collection of business owners, operators, and investors.
It is also a collection of some of the best humans on the planet.
5 things I learned from my time there:
1) The American Dream
No matter what the media tells you, the American Dream is alive and well.
You can put in the work, build something meaningful, and reap the benefits.
2) People Over Everything
You need the right people.
That is a combination of your support system, clients, and team to build an enduring business.
3) You Didn't Sign Up for Easy
Do not believe the lie you see on social media that business ownership is easy. It is not.
Unless you are committed to doing the work most will not, don't sign up.
4) Power of Social Media
Some of my best relationships have come from sharing on social media.
In a world, where we tend to focus on the negatives there are immense positives when done the right way.
5) You Can Do It
We are a product of our environment. If an environment of entrepreneurial people teaches you anything, it is that everyone puts their pants on the same way.
There are no special superpowers to build enduring companies. It is a combination of vision, grit, failure, people, and time.
Restating a thought from @morganhousel ~ Everyone who is great at something has simply been doing it for a long time.
@BrentBeshore, @markbrooks, and the entire team have put on a first class event.

Your actions speak louder than words.
My kids hear me most days but they see my actions every day.
One of my main focuses is improving my health ~ I walk outside almost every single day.
Rain, shine, cold, hot ~ chances are I will be walking for 45 minutes or more.
It has helped me stay in shape, come up with my best business ideas, and give me time to decompress.
Yet, yesterday it gave me one of my best benefits ~ 45 minutes uninterrupted with my two oldest kids.
A habit (walking) that has had a massive impact on my life is now something my kids want to do with me.
I didn't ask them to go on a walk, instead, I showed them an action every day.
We saw a few animals.
We swapped school stories.
We went through fun what if scenarios.
If you want to make an impact on the people around you, stop telling them and start showing them.
Have a great Sunday my friends.

They cut @MikeTrout.
The greatest baseball player of our generation.
The story you have never heard and the lesson to learn:
Back in 2008, I was a high school junior.
I was an up-and-coming baseball player and my first big break was an invitation to the USA baseball team trials.
You see each year USA Baseball brings in 100+ of the best baseball players in the country to try out for the 18u national team.
That year, USA Baseball had arranged for two players each to stay with a host family.
My roommate was a player named, Mike Trout.
Mike had incredible athleticism but was from the Northeast so he didn't come into the event on the "hype train" like some of the top prospects from California, Texas, and Florida did.
We both performed well at the event and made it to the final stage of the trials.
Here USA Baseball chose the final 18 players for the national team.
Mike didn't make those final 18 players.
Fast forward 15 years and Mike is the best player of a generation. A surefire Hall of Famer and arguably one of the greatest baseball players of all time.
Funny, how life works sometimes.
Look the lesson we can all learn from this is life is full of things that are outside of our control.
You will be told no.
You will suffer adversity.
You will face disappointment.
Accept it as part of your journey.
My friends, we focus far too much on the end destination and completely miss the beauty in the journey.
The come up, the adversity, and the struggle are what you will talk about one day.
It makes the destination worth striving for.
So, the next time you face a setback, remember Mike's story.

@dgiff25 The main sounds come from the ball hitting the mitt (super loud being enclosed) and the fans stomping & jumping in the bleachers above.

MLB Bullpen Review #7
Chicago Cubs
Wrigley field is the oldest park in the National league and the bullpen recently underwent renovation. The outfield walls and bleachers now keep it hidden.
Before the bullpen became engulfed by ivy, it was located down the foul line close to the dugout. As basic as it gets: water, gum, seeds, a bench and anything stuffed in your pockets were the amenities.
Although the most challenging part of this location had nothing to do with resources. Locking eyes with a season ticket holder sitting behind the bullpen, rumor is well circulated, was guaranteed to make your best curveball become the worst.
As a visitor, I have pitched in more games at Wrigley than any other venue.
Other than the occasional threat of a outfielder chasing down a foul ball, these friendly confines allow the embrace of Wrigleyville tradition.
Now post renovation era, the bullpen room is hidden from the elements and tucked under the outfield bleachers. The view is accessible through plexiglass outfield wall or closed circuit television.
This room is a first of its kind and I don't believe will have replicas any time soon. Being hidden in a outfield closet is not the worst thing. The resources available do allow for productive work; plenty of turf space, stationary bike, restroom and even a coffee machine.
Altering the function of 100 year tradition is not easy. Same as entering the roar of a stadium, after LED lighting and tinted windows had kept it safely framed.
Finally it is important to note as I continue to review, that all these venues vary widely. Athletes must make adjustments in each city. Playing a game within a game, to find comfort among each nuance.
Overall: 7.5/10
Pros:
1. Tradition
2. One-of-a-kind
3. Safe from fan disturbance
Cons:
1. Viewing game action is difficult
2. Change of tradition will time time to appreciate
Bonus:
Spending time in the foul line bullpen provided many memories. Chatting with the local security officer and grounds crew helped the city feel like home.

@TrevRosenthal Super cool! Going to be fun learning about the uniqueness of each pen from the player’s perspective. I’d have to imagine it’ll even impact the feeling you get when coming into the game as well!

Bullpen Review #1:
St Louis Cardinals -
The best part of any bullpen is the view it provides.
Second is if there is access from the clubhouse through areas other than the field.
The St Louis home bullpen has both.
A break room for the stadium trade workers turns into a player lounge at game time each day. With a/c & TV viewing of the game.
7pm game times are a spectacle to take in. While the sun sets and the lights come on, there are few places better to be.
Exposure to the crowd has its benefits from the home side. Often fans & friends will voice their encouragement to the pitchers.
My favorite part of each bullpen experience is getting to interact with the grounds crew and emergency personnel. There is always a police officer & paramedic that we get to know.
I enjoy watching the routine of the grounds crew to keep the mound and field in perfect condition.
Overall this venue receives a 9/10
Highlights:
1. Access from clubhouse through corridor
2. Room with a/c & TV
3. View of field
4. Plenty of space to spread out
Cons:
1. Few shaded areas for day games
Bonus:
The bullpen phone ring volume is so loud that if your heart needs an extra beat, you are sure to get a jolt before your name is called to start warming up.
