Diabetes mellitus is increasing in prevalence in all age groups, including children & adolescents. Much of its morbidity & mortality is closely related to hypertension. Read this Educational Review of the shared pathophysiology of diabetes & hypertension. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Congratulations to @justin_jin_kim et al who looked at the use of alpha blockers in kids with #PUV. Alpha blockers do not seem to prevent progression to ESRD but they do seem to significantly delay onset of CIC. #articleInformation" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">goldjournal.net/article/S0090-…

Steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome is a common condition in pediatric nephrology & most children have excellent outcomes, but 50% will require steroid-sparing agents due to frequently relapsing disease. Read this Review of clinical trials & more. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

@captainchloride Is FeNa reliable though in NS especially considering that ENaC is activated by plasmin leading to intrarenal sodium retention?

One proposed strategy is to differentiate pts who may benefit using a FeNa 💥Admin. of albumin+lasix to pts w/a FeNa<0.2% = ⬇️BUN, creatinine, Hb 💥No difference in hospital stay or weight loss compared to those who received diuretics alone (FeNa>0.2%) pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19406963/

@RobJimFleming @DrHannahBB I like this - the test (and maybe the testers) do sometimes fail us for sure. Failing is hard, but it's how we learn. We all make it in the end despite the failures or maybe actually because of these failures.
