“Good day, sir… I know you have come to dine with us in the hopes of reading something new, something groundbreaking, something formally unexpected, but we’re all out of that shit. Might I instead recommend….”—checks notes—“… some random 18th-century novels?”

@hockeyanalysis Would have taken savvy additions/tactics to compensate, but they couldn't do it. Their old D core was at high risk of injury/decline, and their depth (Benoit, Myers) was immobile and overexposed. They also lack scoring at forward and a transition game that could compensate. (2/2)

@hockeyanalysis The team last season was a mirage. They were buoyed by an unsustainably high save-percentage from their platoon and an unrepeatably strong record in 1-goal games. This made it seem like they could brook Marner's departure when they could not. (1/2)

@ntrider825 according to my hockey data visualizations it's going to be such an exciting series. check it out:

@Matt_barlowe You'd think old smug closeminded dolts like this would be more humble given the guy Pelley just fired operated like his eyes couldn't be fooled and he didn't need a spreadsheet and he drove the franchise into a wall at 200km/hr.

@johnsemley3000 probably also profitable to be a best-selling author like william gass, michael lentz, mircea cartarescu, things of that nature.

@johnsemley3000 @TorontoStar Only valid team in the east as far as I'm concerned.

the most important article I—or anyone?—will ever write. for the @TorontoStar, I urge Leafs fans, poor, long-suffering Leafs fans, to consider the Sabres. thestar.com/opinion/contri…

@d_boeckner He's been going to a cabin with a 4-track over smaller and smaller problems over the years, as you can hear in his 2025 album "My Favorite Podcast Ended :("

@domluszczyszyn This "they should rebuild" discourse is driving me insane. They don't have their 1st in two of the next three drafts.
Toronto establishment media just does not know puck at all.
English

as they should
anyone who thinks this team need to to do a full rebuild has zero imagination and is underestimating how tactically challenged the current coach is

@JFreshHockey Josh Gorges, who I remember people disliking in the Corsi era but who I think looks pretty good in hindsight with xG models.

With the Sabres' playoff-less streak potentially ending tonight, let's do a unique player card request
Request a player + season of a Buffalo Sabres player from between 2011-12 and 2024-25

@hobson_alex16 He knows all the young players on the Habs and Sabres but is still modest enough to say "I am not the coach or GM and I don't want to be" and set the expectation that the next GM ought to be conversant in data and able to justify their decisions.
Nothing wrong with any of that.
