Is Ola Electric India’s Tesla? The answer could be yes. Tesla is known for its EVs, but not all of its work is just about cars. It’s also an energy company, building gigafactories across the world, producing batteries and advancing energy solutions. The same can be said for Ola. They started with EV scooters, but now they are the only company in India to have a gigafactory and battery cell production. Even the cell they are producing—the 4680 Bharat Cell is a high-energy-density cell. We will see these products in new Ola scooters, but the impact goes far beyond that. The technology can be applied in many ways across energy and transportation. Ola’s entry into India’s first gigafactory is significant because building a battery cell is extremely complex, similar to manufacturing silicon chips in a cutting-edge fabrication plant. They even have a large number of patents granted in India and are already working on other next-generation Li-ion cells like 4690 LFP, 46100 & 46120. If Ola continues to position itself not just as an EV maker but also as a battery and energy company, it could be a complete game-changer for India. In fact, we could say Ola may become the Tesla of India.
