The United States has been subsidizing Europe’s defense for decades while many NATO allies consistently fail to meet even the modest 2% GDP spending target. We maintain expensive military bases, station thousands of American troops, and provide the bulk of the actual combat power and logistical backbone that keeps Europe secure—all at the expense of the American taxpayer. If European countries refuse to allow us to use the bases we man and we largely fund for their defense, then it’s time to bring our people and our resources home.
