There was a sparkle in his eyes, a spring in his step, and a warmth in his voice that I had not seen in years. His love for life and for his new wife overflowed—and I was not left untouched. It was as though the happiness he experienced with his second wife couldn’t be contained. He came home with laughter on his lips, kindness in every gesture, and a renewed attentiveness to those around him. The joy that had seemed dormant now radiated through him, spilling into our home, into our interactions, into the way he looked at me. Every compliment, every gift, every small act of care reminded me of the man I had fallen in love with. He no longer took me for granted.
