Thailand Has a LINE Problem Gambling rooms, investment scams, impersonation fraud, obscene content, illegal firearms sales, drug trafficking. All of it running through LINE chat groups inside Thailand. The Royal Thai Police sat down with LINE Thailand this week to expand what the platform will block on behalf of investigators. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, who runs the RTP's cybercrime center, said gambling and the various scam categories are already covered under the existing arrangement. Guns and drugs are the next additions. A new blocking-request system is being built jointly with LY Corporation, LINE's Japanese parent, and is expected to go live by mid-2026. Police describe it as faster and more comprehensive than the current process. LINE is the dominant messaging app in Thailand, used by most of the country. Whatever filters get applied in Bangkok run through Tokyo first.
