If there is a local cloudburst that triggers a landslide - vehicles will get buried. It's honestly terrifying to be stuck in a jam like this if you know the terrain. I would never halt in places like these. I would take a U turn and head back if I saw such a jam.

@banglani I live in this landscape. In this instance you need to restrict capacity. Even a simple thing like sewage cannot be managed up here beyond a limit. What is happening is an umitigated disaster.

Continuing the theme from yesterday, it baffles me that our instinct to solve every overcrowding problem is to curtail demand rather than build capacity.
China has built 2000 km of railway in Tibet, of which 1000 km is above an unbelievable 13,000 feet (Joshimath is at less than half that altitude). Yet we are litigating a daily quota on tourists instead of demanding an expansion of transport infrastructure.
Instead of blaming the tourists for wanting to escape the intense heat of the Indian plains, we should be asking why our vast Himalaya cannot accommodate 10x the number of visitors than it does today.

In a major development, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released the National Health Accounts Estimates 2022-23, showing remarkable progress in India’s healthcare financing. Government Health Expenditure has nearly tripled from ₹1.30 lakh crore in 2013-14 to ₹3.85 lakh crore in 2022-23.
