Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

This is why - even with a strong El Nino expected - there's a good chance 2026 will still Not beat 2024 as the warmest year globally on record.
El Nino typically peaks ~December... so expect the peak heat in spring 2027, and thus 2027 to likely become the new warmest year on record.

If a strong El Niño develops in 2026 (quite likely now), the main effects on global temps will be in 2027. This is because there is historically a lag of about three months between when El Niño peaks (generally in Nov/Dec) and when the biggest effect occurs:

Florida woman arrested after punching garbage truck driver.
On August 12, 2025, in Palm Beach County, a woman frustrated by a Waste Management truck’s noise confronted the driver.
She climbed into his cab and turned off the ignition.The driver pulled her out. She pushed him, claimed he punched her, and called police.
Officers reviewed evidence and bodycam footage, determined she was the aggressor, and arrested her for simple battery and trespassing.
The driver admitted, pulling her out but denying punching her.

I've been training for a marathon just to get in really good shape for my 5th birthday. I've been averaging about 30 miles a week. Slow and steady, but I'm still struggling with cramps. US Central Command issues notice to seafarers about the blockade going into effect in less than two hours, warning any vessel going to or from Iran is "subject to interception, diversion, and capture." The blockade "encompasses the entirety of the Iranian coastline to include but not limited to ports and oil terminals", the note said, adding that humanitarian shipments including food, medical supplies, and other essential goods would be permitted, subject to inspection.
