Barcelona are just one win away from lifting the La Liga trophy with four games left to play. But with three more match-days to the end of the Premier League season, no one is still certain who will win the title between Arsenal and Manchester City. Something is seriously wrong at Arsenal. There are clear technical and tactical issues, and the players are trying to compensate for them with hard physical and mental labour — excessive running, intensity, passion, even shouting. At this stage of the season, when fatigue has already set in after putting their bodies on the line all year, they should simply be playing football. Instead, they’re using hard labour to cover up the poor football on display from a tactical and technical level, and that’s exactly why they now look physically and mentally exhausted. Meanwhile, Man City players aren’t relying on heavy physical or mental labour, they’re just playing football within a system that works. That’s why they look fresh, even in the middle of a title race that could come down to goal difference.

The concerns being raised feel misplaced. We’re only just beginning to get things in order, and the economy was starting to stabilize after years of stagnation. The previous administration traded crude for debt, which has affected our ability to meet Dangote’s supply quota, alongside our failure to meet OPEC daily production targets. All of these factors are taking a toll. Deregulation is also part of the equation, and, importantly, the issue of greed among many Nigerians cannot be ignored.
