@mongrelcelt @SaulStaniforth No, there is considerable waste, fraud and incompetence in the welfare system that many of us experience on a daily basis. Unfortunately the left's stubborn "welfare good, let's have more" attitude pushes people to the right. A balanced discussion and targeted policies are needed

@SaulStaniforth The relentless welfare bashing is beginning to feel organised, scripted. Perhaps a psyop to create a narrative to drastically cut it before AI puts everyone on welfare making the bill truly massive and demand to increase it deafening

#GMB presenter declares: "The welfare bill is so huge" Except as Kevin Maguire pointed out on the same program earlier this month, it's about 10.6% of GDP & as a proportion that's lower than most other European countries.
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

Kwasi Kwarteng says the welfare bill is unsustainable. Kevin Maguire points out the welfare bill is about 10.6% of GDP, as a proportion that's lower than most other European countries, and the majority of it goes on pensions #GMB

I read a comment on this thread yesterday (no credit to me) that said…why does the male relative have enough cash to buy the child bride but not enough decency to help out financially to stop his relatives from starving. Whoever made that comment should be replacing the journalist who wrote this piece.

Discrimination against LGBTQ+ people is still far too commonplace in the UK - particularly against the trans community. LGBTQ+ rights mustn’t be taken for granted. The fight for equality must go on. #IDAHOBIT2026 #IDAHOBIT

@NickDixon I'm beginning to think it's deliberate. That idea seemed absurd to me until very recently, but surely they must either have a plan (a conspiracy if you will) or just be spoiling for a fight?

All the government has to do is side with the British people against foreign criminals and those who want to radically alter our way of life. But every time, it backs those hostile to our culture. The latest example is two-tier facial recognition at the Unite the Kingdom march. With everything they do, they are cornering people into eventual violence.

Harrison Ford: “Humanity is a part of nature, not above it. We need cultural change. We need to extend social justice. We need to respect and elevate the indigenous people that are being marginalized, and in many cases, killed in cold blood. The world you’re stepping into, the world my generation left you, is a real mess”

@C_3C_3 There are baseless allegations against Trump every 0.01 seconds. This accusation was obviously absurd. If opponents spent as much time making constructive criticisms of Trump as they do smearing and insulting him, he probably wouldn't be Presidnt.

@jeremycorbyn 'Poverty', like racism, is a term so abused it's become meaningless. Poverty is defined relatively, i.e. as a % of median income. It's therefore possible for everyone in poverty to be rich. I'm not saying they are, but I am saying the left are ALWAYS dishonest and manipulative.

Bond markets sold off UK gilts this week, not because of fiscal recklessness, but because they fear Labour might elect a slightly more left-wing leader. That is not rational economic analysis. It is financial power being used to constrain democratic choice, but the media covered it as though it were the former. cnbc.com/2026/05/12/uk-…

@owenjonesjourno 'T+' is the worst thing ever to happen to gay rights. Now LGB is inextricably linked with licentiousness, pedophilia and mental illness. For the vast majority, being gay used to be at worst neutral, at best cool. Now it's viewed as authoritarian, deranged and predatory.

A cause for national shame. This is the Rainbow Map for LGBTI+ rights across Europe. Until 2015, the UK was top. We've now collapsed down the rankings - and are the worst in Western Europe. We're now near Albania.
