Northern Ireland is politically British. American culture is basically English politics & cultural norms mixed with Scots-Irish independence & ruggedness. Our legal framework & overall temperament are British to the core. The only European country that comes close to our cultural value of independence and internal locus of control would also be the British. Dutch, Germans, & Swedes would all have some small lasting regional cultural impact but don’t feature as heavily in our overall culture and national identity. The Irish Catholics that came later brought with them Catholic identity, which became a part of the larger American identity over time. A nation of varying Christian denominations including Catholicism, Protestantism, Evangelical, Mormon, etc.
