📢 New paper out! (Part 2)
This project is a collaboration with @mugino_kubo and my lab students!
The bone histology of the Amami rabbit is just like that of reptiles — many growth marks, even in juveniles…!
The Amami rabbit (Pentalagus furnessi) grows at an exceptionally slow pace.
➡️ It takes five times longer to reach maturity compared to other rabbit species.

We've released a press release about our new research on giant salamander histology!
Our study reveals that the bone histology of giant salamanders resembles that of extinct amphibians, with no parallels in living animals—a true "living fossil" confirmed by its unique bone histology.
This collaborative research was conducted with the lab at Bonn where I worked during my postdoc, my current lab, @SudiptaKalita13, @TaroJGS, and @watanz, with outstanding contributions from our dedicated students!
The beautiful illustration was created by @canon_ofuton.

Excited to see this study led by D'Juan Farmer finally come out after 1.5 years of revisions. My favorite part of the paper is the grem1a:nlsEOS line he made that beautifully lights up the sutures just as they are starting to form. @DJuanFarmer1
